Sasha Skochilenko: The former prisoner of conscience who endured Putin’s Regime (BIFF x Amnesty International)
Aleksandra (Sasha) Skochilenko, a St. Petersburg-based artist, criticized Putin’s war of aggression in Ukraine. The response? Imprisonment, torture, and humiliation.
We have a unique opportunity to hear firsthand what happens to those who stand up against the injustices of the Russian authority. Now we can ask those burning questions of someone who knows more than any expert, someone who has experienced what we’ve only read about in articles or seen in movies, or perhaps not even there.
Amnesty International campaigned extensively for Sasha’s release from all corners of the world. In connection with the film Two Prosecutors, we’ll learn about Sasha’s life, artistic work, activism and gain insight into the workings of a modern authoritarian regime. We ask ourselves: has the fundamentals of the Russian regime changed compared to what Sergei Loznitsa portrays in his film?
Moderated by: Barna Szalai, Amnesty International Hungary
Location: Inga Kultúrkávézó (1094, Budapest, Tűzoltó utca 2.)
The discussion will be held in English. The event is free to attend.
