This year marks the launch of BIFF Graduates, our new five-day talent development programme for graduating film directing students from Hungary and abroad who are developing their first feature-length fiction film projects. Taking place from 27 October to 1 November as part of the Budapest International Film Festival, the inaugural edition brings together four international and two Hungarian participants, selected in collaboration with film schools in Hungary and across Europe.
Unlike most film development programmes, BIFF Graduates focuses less on the screenplay and more on the director’s artistic vision and approach to bringing the film to life. Participants will receive personal feedback on their projects from established Hungarian film professionals, exploring a different perspective each day: directing, cinematography, editing, sound as well as producing and international sales.
BIFF Graduates brings together emerging filmmakers at the very beginning of their professional careers. The programme creates space to share projects in development, engage in open and honest professional dialogue, exchange feedback and ideas, and learn from one another. Our aim is to support participants in developing their own artistic voices, building lasting professional relationships, and becoming part of a stronger, more connected regional film community.
