Winner of the Grand Prix in the Un Certain Regard section at this year's Cannes Film Festival, Sandra Wollner's film follows an unlikely bond between a mother, her daughter, and a teenage boy held responsible for a tragic death. Haunted by questions of guilt, blame and forgiveness, the three travel to Tenerife for a family holiday that never took place. Against the sunlit beaches of the island, past, present and future gradually fold into one another. With remarkable sensitivity and a finely tuned sense of mystery, the German director explores grief in the aftermath of a tragedy that defies any rational understanding.
