Film Description

In a dreamlike boarding school in Tokyo, mermaids are brought up and trained. The film follows 17-year-old Akame, who discovers her mermaid voice, experiences her first love, and undergoes an extraordinary transformation. Behind the fairytale world of the mermaids, however, intense expectations, pressure to perform, and fierce rivalry soon surface, testing even the closest friendships. Konstantina Kotzamani crafts a magical visual universe for this enchanting story, keeping the audience submerged underwater and hypnotically immersed in the depths of the ocean.

About the Director

Konstantina Kotzamani is a Greek film director and screenwriter. After studying film at the Fine Arts Department of the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki, she gained international recognition with acclaimed short films such as Washingtonia (2014), Limbo (2016), and Electric Swan (2019). Her work has screened at prestigious festivals—including Cannes, Berlin, and Locarno—earning numerous awards alongside European Film Academy nominations. Her signature style is defined by lyrical imagery and surreal storytelling.
